Numerous attempts 1973-1974 book been made to revise the Texas Constitution, but each has failed. In a constitutional amendment paved the way for the subsequent legislature to convene itself as a constitutional convention, which became known as the Con-Con.

CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION OF Recognizing the need for a new state constitution, the Sixty-second Texas Legislature passed a resolution in May that called for the establishment of a constitutional revision commission and for the convening of the Sixty-third Legislature as a constitutional convention at noon on the second Tuesday in January InTexas voters approved a revision of the state's constitution.

Prior to this revision, Professor George D. Braden and others began research in order to “provide information to aid the constitutional revision process.” In this publication, the authors provide information regarding the origins, historical development, and contemporary meaning of each section of the Texas Constitution.

The Constitution of the State of Texas: An Annotated Comparative Analysis by George D. Braden, et. was begun in as part of the constitutional revision process approved by voters. It provides information about the history, development and meaning of the Texas Constitution, along with comparative commentary.

In the Texas Legislature placed on the ballot an Amendment which called for the Legislature to meet as a constitutional convention, for purposes of drafting a new state Constitution. The session failed by a mere three votes to propose a new constitution.
